FAQ

How much does it cost?

For $5 fill up a box with “all” your stuff such as old clothes, batteries and light bulbs. Nothing wet and weird please.

How does the reward work?

When we sell your items - through reuse or recycling - we pool 20% of the proceeds and then split the money among those who diverted during a given month.

What type of stuff are people recycling?

Some lightbulbs, a pile of clothes, a ziplock of batteries, a broken printer, a functional printer, an old iPhone, an older iPad, some cans of paint, a boulder of plastic bag (yes that's a thing)... you get the idea, we'll take pretty much anything as long as it's dry.

How do you recycle things correctly?

To most folks, recycling is a catch-all word for not putting stuff in an incinerator or a landfill. But to us, we will always try to re-use or repair anything you give us. If we can't, we work with vendors who specialize in recycling specific materials to get them back in the system accordingly.

What's the size of the box?

Any container will do! If you're a numbers person think about what can fit in this volume: 18” x 12” x 12”. For the rest of us, it's about what would fit inside a medium Amazon box or a Fresh Direct bag.

What we collect

Batteries
Single-use batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 9V), Rechargeable batteries (NiMH, NiCd, Li-ion), Battery packs from electronics (such as laptop batteries), Car batteries, Button cells (used in watches, hearing aids, and other small devices). We accept damaged or leaking batteries. Please ensure they are placed in a sealed plastic bag to prevent any leaks during transportation. You can mix different types of batteries in the same box, but we recommend placing them in separate containers to avoid any potential chemical reactions.

Electronics
Smartphones and tablets, Laptops and desktops, Monitors and TV screens, Keyboards, mice, and other computer peripherals, Printers and scanners, Gaming consoles and accessories, Chargers, cables, and adapters, Small household electronics like blenders, toasters, and coffee makers. We accept both working and non-functional electronics. Currently, we do not accept large appliances.

Textiles
Clothing (shirts, pants, dresses, etc.), Shoes and boots, Accessories (belts, hats, scarves), Linens (sheets, towels, pillowcases), Small rugs and mats, Bags and backpacks, Damaged textiles, including fabric scraps. We accept stained and torn textiles.

How we recycle things correctly

We will always try to reuse or repair anything you deposit. If we can't, we work with creators and vendors who specialize in recycling specific materials to get them back into the local community accordingly.

How to monitor the status of your deposit

After we receive your deposit, we will tag the inventory to your information. Once the deposited objects have been processed - through a transaction, recycling facility, or reuse program - we will inform you with data related to the disposal, and the environmental impact of the process. If we are able to sell an item you deposit, we will inform you and refund a portion or all of your deposit, dependent upon the sell.

What container to use

Consider something the size of a microwave oven, Bankers Box, or small suitcase - near a volume of 18” x 12” x 12”. If possible, place your objects in a reusable container and we will transfer them to one of our containers. Any container will do! If you have large amounts of waste and would like to bulk submit deposits, please contact us

Why it costs

We collect currency with each deposit to help ensure waste doesn't end up in the ocean or a landfill and instead are recycled back into your local community. Finding the appropriate recycling method can be costly and time-consuming and often lacks traceability of the items you dispose. We aim to mitigate those steps for you and provide insight on where your deposit goes. These costs help fund operations including pick-up services and material management for each deposit. You will receive a detailed breakdown of costs once the materials are processed. These costs could be reduced or mitigated as collection networks, material recognition software, local recycling infrastructure, and recycling policy improves. Through community collaboration, we strive to make this happen.
